A nice view from the baths... when there is no cloud! Manza is anyway a good place to soak in in summer

Ratings   (explanation of our rating system)

Global rating :
At an altitude of 1800 meters, this is one of the highest onsen in Japan.

Size :
Three medium-sized baths, located very close to each other, are male's baths used as konyoku (women are free to join); the biggest women's outdoor bath is covered by a roof.

View :
An extremely nice view is offered from the baths, as a large part of the ski field can be seen (there are not a lot of buildings in Manza). Especially gorgeous in winter, when everything around - including the water - is white.

Modesty :
Although women have a separated changing room and rotenburo, they can, if they wish so, join the "men's ones", which is officially mixed. However, those konyoku baths are located just under the men's changing room, so women might not enjoy the feeling of being observed... Indeed, most women just enjoy their own baths.

Area :
Manza is an extremely famous ski resort, located at 1800 meters in the Gunma prefecture, very close to the Nagano prefecture. In winter, hotels are packed with Japanese coming to enjoy the attractive combination of onsen and ski. The rest of the year, it offers interesting possibilities for mountain - and volcano - lovers.
