| Aoni onsen is a famous, seriously isolated ryokan, located close to Hakkoda-san and ........ Also known as "lamp no yado", the ryokan used to be run without electricity; things have change now, but still all the ryokan is lighted only with oil lamps, and nothing but nature surrounds the place. With a mountain stream flowing next to the rooms and the baths, the view is stunning, especially in winter - definitively the best period. We however where somehow disappointed: Aoni onsen is heavily marketed! The snow-mobile, which is presented on the internet site of the ryokan, is not used anymore, and visitors are brought to the ryokan in a normal mini-bus in winter (the rest of the year, private cars can reach the ryokan). Also, most of the item on sale are bearing the logo of the ryokan. | |

| There are plenty of baths to enjoy! The famous mixed rotenburo is, in fact, cover with a roof and has walls on 3 sides! Furthermore, it is not very large. The mixed inside bath is quite small, too. Not to be missed are the segregated inside baths in the new building, which have a nice view on the nearby river. It is a pity that only one outside bath is available, though. | |

| Separated changing rooms are available for the mixed inside bath; from there, the rotenburo can be easily reached - as its own changing room for women is not very convenient. | |
