Ratings   (explanation of our rating system)

Global rating :
The water used for this onsen comes from two different springs; they are mixed together, which leads to baths with different colors, which can be milky or transparent.

Size :
What can we say... An incredible selection of baths, ranging from large ones to small, private ones. Everybody will find something enjoyable there.

View :
The view over the river inside this little valley give you a peaceful feeling.

Modesty :
Large variety of bath, with great two people private style bath, perfect for lovers.

Area :
The Okukinu Onsen area is called the home of secret spas. Haccho No Yu, Teshirosawa, Kaniyu and Nikkozawa are some of the hot springs located within this wild area, which is partly accessible only by foot. Should you have time, and provided that you spend one night in one of those ryokan, you can walk from Okukinu Onsen to Oze marshland, an incredible marsh located at an altitude of about 2000 meters. The whole area is designated as a National Treasure; indeed, the marshland and can be extremely crowded from June to September, and is better visited later in the year.

Comment

I unfortunately noticed the small bath with a ship's shape too late to really enjoy it, as we had to leave the onsen at that time... But with such a large number of baths, it is really impossible to soak in all of them! Now, I am just waiting for some family to visit me from Europe and organize an onsen trip over there.

Private bath

A very funny boat-shaped bath (mixed)... which however contained some vegetal suspension

Another mixed bath

And an outside bath reserved for men
