Area :
Ebino-kogen Plateau is at the border between Miyazaki and Kagoshima Prefectures, in Kyushu. It belongs to the Kirishima-Yaku National Park, which was the first area designated as a national park in Japan. The highland is at an altitude of 1200-1300 meters above the sea level, while the Mt. Karakuni-dake - reaching 1700 meters - is the highest mountain south Kyushu. Ebino-kogen is a perfect starting point for hiking in the park, offering hikes to the top of the mountains or around volcanic lakes. If the weather is fine, you can have gorgeous views from the summit of the mountains. There are limited accomodations in Ebino-Kogen. Located more to the south, Kirishima Onsen is an alternative entrance to the national park - but from there, you will need a car or a bus to reach the hiking area. On the other hand, there are plenty of huge hotels and ryokan. Isolated Shinyu Onsen is also located in the area, but at a higher altitude.
