Ratings   (explanation of our rating system)

Global rating :
Sakoya is a traditional japanese ryokan built about 280 years ago. It is situated just in front of the main temple in Yoshino-san, and centered in the village. If you know the japanese 1000 yen bill, you might stay in the same room as the man represented on it, who stayed years ago at this ryokan.

Size :
No family bath but you will find both inside and outside baths for women and men. The outside bath for men is quite small and a maximum of three people will fit in.

View :
Really situated at the front of the main temple, and on a kind of cliff, the view from the bath over the surrounding mountains is splendid.

Area :
The mountain called Yoshino is not famous only for the beautiful temple you will find there, but also for the cherry trees. The trees are situated at different altitudes, ranging from the bottom to the top of Yoshino, and are from a variety called yama sakura (mountain cherry tree). There you can enjoy the blossom over a long period of time as compared with the usual one or 2 weeks in Tokyo.

Comment

Usually I don’t choose the place I will stay for the food, but I have to say that it was excellent and I would advise to select the house sake, a very good daiginjo-shu.
