The bath, the river and the waterfall, all together

Global rating :
This free onsen is a true jewel. Located in the Hakusan National Park, about 15 minutes by foot (by stairs, rather) from the Shirayama Super Forest Road (linking to Okuchi-mura in Ishikawa-ken and Shirakawa-go in Gifu-ken), it is nested just next to a river, opposite a waterfall! Furthermore, bathing here is free... although you will have to pay a 3150 yens toll for the road. This onsen is a perfect stop on your way to or from Shirakawa-go, a World Heritage place in nearby Gifu-ken.

Size :
Only one rather small bath, usually seen on pictures with a piece of wood in the middle of it. This is in fact a wooden pipe, whose function is to send directly some of the water of the spring in the river - otherwise, the temperature of the bath would be too high.

View :
The river is just centimeters from the bath, and the waterfall is on the opposite shore - a perfect location for a rotenburo! The surroundings mountains are nice, too, and there is no building in sight to mess with the scenery. The walk from the road to the bath offers nice views, but be warned that the bath is about 100 meters lower than the road (mostly stairs), which will request some efforts to go back to your car...

Modesty :
There are toilets nearby, but it seems that most people just change next to the bath, using a bench to store their clothes - in full sight of the other people soaking or walking around... Probably difficult access for women, although it seems that some keep swimming costume on them.

Area :
The onsen is close to the Shirayama Super Forest Road, which offers nice scenery. Although there is some driving required, the most famous point around, Shirakawa-go, is definitively worth a visit.

A nice view on the waterfall from the nearby road (the bath can not be seen from there, though)
