Coming Home....Need Some Advice

Hi All......my wife and I are returning to Japan for two weeks in July with some friends after living there for some 15 years until 1993.  One of our hobbies in the old days of onsenning (is that a word?) and we want to hit some old favorites and make some new discoveries.  We plan on going through Takayama to Okuhida (maybe Shinhodaka?) as I love the train ride through Gero from Gifu.  After that we may perhaps make it as far as Tohoku (I lived in Akita back in 1981).  We also love to visit Yakimono mingeigama and would love to combine the two.  We speak, read and write Japanese and would love to show off some old fashioned rotenburo and ryokan to our friends.  We have a rail pass Any suggestions?  
Also congratulations on a fun site.  It should really take off!
